Delaware River Maritime Enterprise Council
CASE STUDY: Promoting a Strategy for a Strategic Port
When advocates for enhancing the Philadelphia’s role as one of 14 Strategic Military Seaports wanted to raise the public profile of their efforts, they turned to Triad Strategies.
The Delaware River Maritime Enterprise Council retained Triad to help deliver its message to key governmental leaders and regional news media and enhance public understanding of why the Port of Philadelphia had a critical role to play in the war in Iraq and the fight against global terrorism. Later, Triad took on the additional task of promoting a proposal to deepen the ship channel in the Delaware River to accommodate supertankers and other large vessels.
Triad’s challenge was to break through the legendary clutter of issues and stories in the Greater Philadelphia media market to generate quality broadcast and print coverage for RAPID – DRMEC’s Regional Agile Port Intermodal Distribution concept – and the DredgeNow Coalition.
Over a three-year period, Triad achieved its goals, establishing a strong relationship with reporters and editors at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News and area broadcast news operations resulting in major business news features, Op Ed placements and television news features. In addition, Triad used its own in-house broadcast production capability to generate web-based video features and redeveloped the DRMEC website.
