Roy Wells is the public face of Triad Strategies, the man who took an idea and shaped it into one of Pennsylvania’s largest and most successful public affairs firms.  He saw an industry that was stale and stagnant, and turned it upside down by creating a full-service firm where clients had access not only to top-notch governmental relations, but also true communications, grassroots and business development professionals.

Several years ago, Roy envisioned this new paradigm in public affairs and made it a reality.  The core services would be lobbying, strategic communications and business consulting. It would capitalize on new technology to scan the public policy landscape, to reach key audiences and bolster the relationships conducive to client success.  It would provide “air cover” for its lobbying efforts by building public support through traditional and non-traditional public relations.

Triad Strategies quickly emerged as a force on the public affairs landscape in Pennsylvania, a company whose clientele includes Fortune 500 companies, major healthcare providers and hospital groups, agribusinesses, organized labor, energy companies, non-profits, state agencies and professional trade organizations. Today, Triad is uniquely positioned to take on the tough assignments that require creative strategies.

As president, Roy recruited one of the largest staffs of registered lobbyists in the state. The team includes former legislative and executive branch staff members from both sides of the political aisle.  With strategic communications practice leader Tony May, he also has assembled Pennsylvania’s premier group of issue management and crisis communications professionals.

The result is the triad of lobbying, strategic communications and business consulting.  Roy not only manages the firm, he actively engages the Triad team to make sure every single client on the roster is treated like the most important client we have.  At Monday morning strategy meetings, Roy is there, directing the ship, inspiring and motivating and providing feedback and ideas to help our clients succeed.

Building on the firm’s success in Harrisburg, Triad now has a presence in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. The firm also has strategic alliances with partners whose expertise includes law, finance, advertising, data management, publishing, e-mail marketing and web design.

Before moving into the private sector, Roy spent seven years working in the General Assembly and the Pennsylvania Treasury Department. As deputy State Treasurer, he was responsible for the administration of the department, including the preparation, introduction, and passage of key legislation. He also served as liaison between the Treasury Department and House and Senate leadership and other members of the General Assembly.

Before that, he was a budget analyst for the Majority House Appropriations Committee, with primary responsibility for analyzing and making recommendations concerning the appropriations of the Departments of Commerce, Corrections, Probation and Parole, Attorney General, and Auditor General. He also had oversight responsibility for the Commonwealth's economic development programs and was the rural policy coordinator for the House Majority Caucus. He served as senior staff to both House and Senate.
